Stroll through the Swan House: An Historic Atlanta Icon

Some of you may remember when my husband and I chose to elope due to the pandemic. One of the best decisions we made was holding our wedding at the historic Swan House in Atlanta. In honor of our third anniversary, I wanted to highlight this local icon that reflects true 1920s style. It was the perfect venue for our vintage inspired wedding. The architecture and gardens are simply stunning.

We celebrated our union in front of the grand tiered water fountain, and had a small reception with a lemon buttercream cake and champagne on the back patio accompanied by a cellist.

Our wedding felt positively Gatsbyesque. I could easily imagine svelte guests swaggering about with long-stemmed glasses of fine bubbly, notes of jazz sliding through a sultry summer night, and the scent of gardenias perfuming the air.

But not only is the Swan House a charming local wedding destination, it is a must see for anyone visiting the Atlanta area.

Architect Philip Trammel Shutze built the house for Edward Inman, an heir to a large cotton brokerage. Designed in Italian and English classical style with 20th-century modern living in mind, the Swan House is considered one of Schutze’s finest residential achievements. With arched entranceways and large columned porticos, the construction will make you feel as if you have stepped into a European oasis in the heart of Atlanta.

The formal grounds provide a pleasant stroll with ivy laden statuettes surprising you around every corner you turn. They are a romantic Secret Garden, ready for lingering.

There are also ten acres of woodland surrounding the property with meadows of grasses, wildflowers, as well as thriving honeybee hives and a chestnut orchard.

If you are local to Atlanta and have not yet visited, or if you are a visitor passing through, The Swan House is an essential destination to add to your list.
