A Night at 1842 Inn

During a recent roadtrip, we stumbled across a gem in Macon, Georgia at the historic 1842 Inn. Since boutique travel is our preference, we sought out an overnight stay in a place that would not only provide respite during a stressful time but also hold a bit of charm. It turned out to be all that we expected it would be – lovely, hospitable, and meticulously full of historic detail.

We chose to stay in the cottage located on the back of the property, fronting a formal garden that remained green even in winter. Our room greeted us with period wallpaper and accents, as well as an ample bed framed by custom draperies.

Our hostess was attentive, sharing with us the new fire pit in the garden, where we enjoyed the warmth of the firelight with a bottle of complimentary champagne. She checked on us frequently to make sure we had everything we needed.

The following morning, in keeping with social distancing, we chose our breakfast delivered by room service, which we took out onto the quintessentially southern front porch. Being in Macon, close to early spring, the weather was beautifully pleasant and mild enough to linger with our coffees alfresco.

For an impromptu decision, our stay turned out to be a much needed and restorative little vacation. We definitely have plans to return, whether we need a weekend getaway or are passing through on our way to Savannah.

If you are in the Atlanta area, the 1842 Inn makes for a perfectly close getaway. And if you are a local bride looking for a charming nearby destination wedding, I encourage you to check it out. It truly is a gem that should not be overlooked in local boutique travel.
